Sing with Us
The Choir is always keen to hear from singers.
Vacancies do occur from time to time. Our musical director makes the decisions on the make-up of the choir.
The key musical skill you need is the ability to hold a solid 'choral' line when down to one or two voices per part.
Sight-reading
An ability to sight-read is always useful, though singers whose sight-reading may not be good but who are prepared to commit to learning notes etc. between rehearsals, are welcome.
Rehearsals
Rehearsals take place every Tuesday night, during school term time, from 7.30pm until 9.30pm. We are currently rehearsing in the Methodist Church in Ulverston.
Attendance
Commitment to attending Tuesday rehearsals (as well as the concerts!) is important to ensure the choir gets the most from each rehearsal.
If you would like to join us, please email our Chair, Helen Norrie by email at furnessbachchoir@gmail.com or call 01229 583750
Accompanist required - paid position
We are currently looking for an Accompanist who can support our Musical Director in rehearsals. This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to work with an outstanding conductor and an excellent community choir. We meet on a Tuesday evening, 7.30-9.30 at Ulverston Methodist Church.
Interested parties can contact furnessbachchoir@gmail.com or call 01229 583750
We are a choir of 40 voices...
singing music composed over the past thousand years.
Choristers live in and around the Furness Peninsula. We were formerly known as the Ulverston Bach Choir and still rehearse in Ulverston on Tuesday evenings during term times.
Very often our concerts will include a full or period orchestra and occasionally guest musicians.

Our Musical Director
Alex Robinson Alex Robinson graduated from the University of Manchester with a first class degree in Music (MusB) and the Royal Northern College of Music with an MMus in Performance at Distinction level (Conducting). He studied under the student conductor program at Manchester University with Mark Heron & Justin Doyle (RIAS Kammerchor) and later with Clark Rundell at the RNCM. During his studies he was Musical Director for the University Music Society’s performances of Rameau’s ‘Castor & Pollux’ (2016), conducted Harrison Birtwistle’s ‘Silbury Air’ with the composer in attendance for the NewMusicNorthWest Festival in 2016 and worked with postgraduate composers in various new music projects at the RNCM and with ‘Psappha’. Alex concluded his studies in Manchester with a performance with the BBC Philharmonic and soloists on the RNCM’s International Artist Diploma (IAD) Program. Alex travels by train from Manchester each week to conduct our wonderful choir and we have already benefited from his expertise and enthusiasm in the short time he has been with us. You can find out more about Alex via his website. |
