Sing with Us

The Choir is always keen to hear from singers.

Vacancies do occur from time to time. Our new musical director, Marco Bellasi, makes the decisions on the make-up of the choir.

The key musical skill you need is the ability to hold a solid 'choral' line when down to one or two voices per part.

Sight-reading

An ability to sight-read is always useful, though singers whose sight-reading may not be good but who are prepared to commit to learning notes etc. between rehearsals, are welcome.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals take place every Tuesday night, during school term time, from 7.30pm until 9.30pm in Croftlands Junior School hall in Ulverston.

Attendance

Commitment to attending Tuesday rehearsals (as well as the concerts!) is important to ensure the choir gets the most from each rehearsal.
If you would like to join us, please email our Chair, Helen Norrie by email at furnessbachchoir@gmail.com or call 01229 583750

We are a choir of 40 voices...

singing music composed over the past thousand years.

Choristers live in and around the Furness Peninsula. We were formerly known as the Ulverston Bach Choir and still rehearse in Ulverston on Tuesday evenings during term times.

Very often our concerts will include a full or period orchestra and occasionally guest musicians.

Furness Bach Choir are delighted to have
Marco Bellasi as their Musical Director

“I am thrilled and excited to be chosen to be the Musical Director of Furness Bach Choir,” Marco says. “My goal will be to preserve their tradition of excellence in performing great works from the choral repertoire, while suggesting new approaches to music and choral sound.”

Marco Bellasi is a prize winning conductor who has recently completed his time as Junior-Fellows conductor at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where he obtained his Masters degree (with distinction) in 2012.
He received tuition from Sir Mark Elder, assisting him at various times with the Halle Orchestra, and recently has studied with Ricardo Muti in Milan.

From 2011 to 2016 Marco was Musical Director of the Pennine Singers chamber choir in Glossop, and also, in 2016, worked as conductor of the RNCM Chamber Choir on a project culminating in public concerts at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester.

A trained singer, starting as a chorister in the Cathedral Choir of the Duomo of Milan, Marco has sung on numerous occasions as soloist and in chamber groups.

In addition to the RNCM orchestra and the Halle, he has worked with many orchestras including the BBC Symphony, and the Manchester Camarata, as well as community orchestras throughout the north of England.

Before taking his Masters degree at RNCM, Marco graduated in conducting at the Milan Conservatoire Guiseppe Verdi in 2007. He is also a professional violinist.

Marco is also very much looking forward to working with the choir, and has chosen some fascinating repertoire for their next season!
